DuVernay was in college when she became fascinated by the production aspect of the broadcast media. Her first job was as an assistant for CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was appointed to look-out and search for the house for a specific member of the Jury. After being disappointed in journalistic work by the assignments she was given and deciding to go after a career in publicity. DuVernay began her career as a junior public relations assistant for a film studio that was small, right after graduating from college. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency.
